crisis

China has expressed deep concern about the impact Europe's debt crisis could have on its trade, without mentioning any specific measures to help European countries.

Commerce Ministry spokesman Shen Danyang told reporters in Beijing on Tuesday that the government is worried Europe's credit crunch could spill over into trade friction.

Shen said that if EU growth slows further, it will weaken consumption and investment in the zone, possibly affecting China's exports to Europe.

There has been hope that China would purchase more European government bonds to help ease the credit crisis. But on this point, Shen said only that China has been keeping a close watch on the crisis since the start and has already supported some debt-laden countries.
