French authorities have announced that 3 men are being formally investigated over the theft of 5 famous paintings by such masters as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse from a museum in Paris.
The authorities said on Saturday that one of the men is suspected of taking part in the theft and the other 2 of selling the artworks.
The theft took place at the Paris Museum of Modern Art in May 2010. The stolen masterpieces include Picasso's "Dove with Green Peas" and Matisse's "Pastorale". Their estimated value is 100 million euros, or about 135 million dollars.
The intruder entered the museum through the only window where the alarm system did not work.
Local police thought it was a well-organized crime and conducted an investigation in conjunction with the international police agency, ICPO.
None of the paintings has been found and a special unit in the Interior Ministry is in charge of the search and investigation.
