More than 500 arrested in Wall Street protest

In New York, a huge demonstration against the high unemployment rate and economic policy has been held in Wall Street, the US financial center. More than 500 people were arrested for disrupting traffic.

Protests have spread in Wall Street over the past 2 weeks. About 1,500 people, including young people and members of labor unions, took part in the march on Saturday.

Some marchers headed to the Brooklyn Bridge spanning the river between Manhattan and Brooklyn. They moved off the bridge's pedestrian walkway onto the road, marching there and blocking traffic lanes.

Police say they have arrested about 500 people for occupying traffic lanes of the bridge.

Part of the bridge was closed for several hours before being reopened shortly after 8 PM local time.

The protest in Wall Street is drawing attention from across the United States. Film director Michael Moore, who has produced movies on poverty, guns, and other American social issues, visited a protestor's camp in a park to give them encouragement.
