More al-Qaeda leaders killed in US attack

US media report that 2 other senior members of al-Qaeda may have died in the US attack that killed Anwar al-Awlaki.

The US and Yemeni governments announced on Friday that they had killed Awlaki, who was the spiritual leader for the Yemen-based group al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
The attack is believed to have been carried out by the US Central Intelligence Agency, using an unmanned drone.
Several US media organizations, including the New York Times, have reported that 2 other senior members of the militant group, who were with Awlaki at the time of the attack, may also have been killed.
One of them was in charge of making bombs and is believed to have made the explosive device that was found in a cargo aircraft that left Yemen on a flight to the United States last year.
The other was responsible for spreading radical beliefs using the Internet.
The US government has put top priority on the elimination of the militant group in its fight against terrorism.
The death of the leaders is raising hope that the operation will lead to the weakening of the organization.
